Sidecars Round 1
Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway
AUBURN, CALIFORNIA, May 23, 2025
Michael Kirby Story and Photos

The evening was perfect in Auburn Ca. for week three at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway Friday night. A near capacity crowd showed up at the Gold Country Fairgrounds and were treated to a very exciting evening of first-class speedway racing. The weather could not have been better as the sun went behind the stands and the program began.

This week's program included the first of five visits that the Extreme Sidecars will journey to Fast Friday's tricky dirt oval this season including the 2025 AMA Extreme National Sidecar Championship on August 30. Loyal Extreme Sidecar fans packed the Fast Friday's stands to watch five two person teams on 1000cc three-wheeled super bikes take to the track.

Racing four heat races then the main event, the teams of Joe Jones and Johnny Glover, Robert Curry and Michael McGovern, Jason Fritze and Tiffiny Leppien, Wade Boyd and Eric Lindauer and Ace Kale and Brent Smith battled on the tight Fast Friday's track to the fans delight. Kale/Smith won the first race over Jones/Glover in the first race with Jones/Glover handicapping themselves back 30 yards. Jones/Glover won the second heat with Curry/McGovern finishing second. Curry/McGovern led most of the race, but Jones/Glover pulled off a win at the tapes. In the third heat Jones and Glover had a strong challenger in the team of Fritze and Leppien but again Jones/Glover got them in another come from behind win at the tapes.

In heat four all five teams were bunched in turn one and tightly packed but this round it was the team of Boyd and Lindauer that emerged in the lead which they held for the win. In the main event the teams lined up and they were off. The racing was tight with all the teams were in contention but with Jones and Glover leading Jones, uncharacteristically slid to far out of turn four in lap three and forced into the infield as Boyd and Lindauer blew by them for the main event win. All the teams had a great night and put on a unforgettable show.

Billy Janniro had another great night repeating his scratch main event win last week. Janniro dropped his heat race finishing second to Darren Armbruster in a thrilling neck and neck race all four laps. He won his semi-final heat to transfer to the main event. There he lined up in the outside lane and faced Broc Nicol, Russell Green and Charlie Trana who was racing at Fast Fridays for the first time this season. As the tapes went up this would unfold as one of the best main event races in memory. All four riders got to turn one at the same time with no one giving an inch. The race continued like this for all four laps with the riders bunched inches apart and with the lead changing by inches several times. Janniro's years of track experience and eleven times the AMA National Speedway Championship pulled him through for the win. A great effort by all four riders. Nicol was second, Trana was third and Green fourth.

Danny Faria got his first main event win this season in the handicap program. Faria was handicapped on the 10-yard line and did a great job of keeping the deeper yardage riders in line behind him as he won his heat, semi-final races and then the main event turning in a perfect evening in the handicap program. Charlie Trana, having a great night, finished second and Russell Green was third.

Hunter Castillo came out on top in the Support Division, his first main event win of the season. Castillo was second in his first heat race, won his second heat race and then the main event. Castillo was challenged hard by Catherine Moore in all of the support division races. In the main event Mike Newnham was second and Moore was third.

For the second week in a row Jameson Hutchinson won the Youth 250cc main event. Hutchinson won all his races including the main event with Wesley Rearick finishing second, Caden Cavrikas finishing third and Justin Gist finishing fourth in all the races including the main event.

Riley Rearick picked up his third main event in the Youth 150cc Division 1 main event of the season so far. Rearick won both of his heat races and then the main event. It was a great main event win with Hudson Jones and Zander Schroeder following closely behind Rearick. Jones fell back and Brady Wills filled his spot. Schroeder was second, Wills was third and Jones was fourth.

Logan Kerr won all three of his races in the Youth 150cc Division 2 program including the main event, his first of the season. Mason Howell was second and Leeann Emerson was third. Hank Hanaway won the Youth 150cc Division 3 main event, Dexter Orlando was second and Zeva Schroeder was third. The pee-wees also wooed the crowd as the do each week with three heat races.

Team Challenge returns next week with round two of their season long grudge match. With the score after round one knotted at 9-9 the racing should be edge of your seat intense.
